Client: Hopkins Public Schools
Timeframe: November & December 2021
Challenge: In response to the FDA approving the Pfizer vaccine for ages 5-11, Hopkins Public Schools applied for a grant from Hennepin County to hold two COVID vaccination clinics in November and December 2021. Once the grant application was approved, the school district's COVID-19 management team had less than one month to recruit volunteers, promote the event, and put together materials to make the experience organized, positive, and memorable for staff and families in the community seeking vaccinations. With the recent approval from the FDA and CDC, it was important to provide staff and families with informational resources, reassurance, and encouragement in order to get the most out of the vaccine clinic events.
Process: In preparation for these events, I was contacted to create print and digital promotional materials to attract families in the community to the event, including social media posts, website news posts, student handouts, school newsletter articles, and signs for six elementary school buildings. During the event planning meetings, I proposed to also design name tags for translators, building signage, custom stickers, and a photo booth for families to celebrate their vaccination status. I used Hopkins Public Schools' brand colors and typography along with a variety of programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, and Canva to create the event promotion and support materials.
In addition, I volunteered for both events at the CDC card station. I also provided live social media, interview, and photography coverage using my Apple iPhone and Canon camera during each of the clinics.
Results: Hopkins Public Schools reached its goals for clinic turnout and families throughout each of the events expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to vaccinate and protect their families. Nearly 1,300 shots were given out over the course of the two events, including 1,097 doses to children ages 5-11 and 199 doses to children and adults over age 12.
A special thanks to Hennepin County for the grant to put on these clinics and to all our volunteers, leaders, and nursing staff from inside and outside the district who were able to come together and make these events possible!
